Chairman’s Report 2024

The Parish Council has met monthly apart from in August

The renewal of the footpath at the top of Old Road has been approved by Lancashire County Council but one objection has been made.  As a result, it could be several years before for this can be implemented.

Grants from Ribble Valley Borough Council for the Coronation celebrations were received and passed on to village applicants.  Hansons/Heidelberg Materials were reminded that a Jubilee bench had been promised and we understand that it will be installed shortly.

The redundant bus shelter on Ribblesdale Avenue will shortly be removed to the bus stop opposite the church on Sawley Road.

A Ribble Valley shared lengthsman was due to start in April but the current person has now resigned and the vacancy has been advertised.

HARP has now passed all planning conditions and the project is expected to commence in 2025.

Problems with Downham Road bridge are still ongoing and Network Rail is being urged to take action. Repeated requests from the Parish Council for a time schedule for repairs to be carried are inconclusive and this appears not to be a priority.

Village residents were informed through the monthly newsletter that new Trustees are needed for the Village Hall. Volunteers have now come forward and a meeting will be held shortly to confirm their appointments.

The Parish Council is considering replacing the toddler train and the perimeter fence around the play area on the playing field.

Our thanks go to our clerk, Sheila Sturrock, all Councillors including our Borough Councillor, the Village Committee, The Changing Rooms Association and the Village Hall Trustees for their efforts during the last year.
